Support Feds Feed Families in A Summer of Giving!

For 11 years, commissary customers and employees have traditionally led the Department of Defense in donations to the Feds Feed Families campaign. This year, we’re officially leading the campaign for DoD!

“We are proud of taking the lead for a campaign that allows us to showcase how caring and giving our people are, and demonstrates the Department’s commitment to helping people in need.”

Randy Eller, Director of Logistics, Defense Commissary Agency

The campaign, which collects donations of food for food pantries and food banks, is designed to help these facilities stay stocked during the summer months, when they traditionally see a decrease in donations and an increase in need. The need is very real, even in a typical year, and all the more so now, in the midst of a summer season and year that is anything but typical.

Taking this leadership role is a natural fit for commissaries, and not only because we sell food and household products to the military community! According to the USDA, which is the designated lead agency for the overall campaign, nearly 1.5 million veterans live in poverty. As the federal Department responsible for supporting nutrition assistance for those in need, the USDA notes that donations can help support healthy eating for these veterans and others.

A Summer of Giving

Each bag is stocked with enough Freedom’s Choice™ products for two meals, a snack and water — all for a cost of less than $10!

Commissary customers and employees may support these efforts to collect donations of the products these facilities need the most at our stateside stores through July 31 of this year by:

  • purchasing these products in-store or bringing them from home
  • purchasing prepackaged donation bags

Regardless of the source, you will be able to donate these products the same simple way: by placing them in a designated donation bin at a stateside commissary!

We appreciate installation officials working with these commissaries to deliver the donations to local food banks. (As always, please contact Your Commissary locally to confirm its participation in this campaign.)
