For Scholarships for Military Children, Hindsight’s 2020

Hindsight’s 2020 for the Fisher House Foundation, which recently launched its Scholarships for Military Children program in collaboration with commissaries for the 2020 school year. This marks the 20th year of the program, which awards educational grants to the children of U.S. service members and celebrates the role that commissaries play in enhancing the quality of life of military customers.

For 20 years, commissaries have been selected by the Fisher House Foundation to offer these scholarships to the deserving sons and daughters of our military members.

We are honored to be associated with Fisher House and the efforts they put forth, and we thank the many industry partners that continue to make the scholarship grants happen each year.

As they say, hindsight’s 20/20, so now is a great time to reflect on the remarkable benefits the program has offered to the military community. According to Fisher House, in its first 19 years, the program has:

  • Received applications from 100,429 applicants
  • Selected 11,314 recipients
  • Awarded $19,126,000 in scholarship grants to military children.

The future looks bright for the program, as well! Fisher House has worked to modernize it by moving the application process entirely online, which it did for the first time last school year. You can find more information about the online application, eligibility criteria and other requirements by visiting its website.

For the 2020-2021 school year, the program expects to award 500 scholarship grants of $2,000 each, with at least one grant awarded for each commissary that receives qualified applicants. The remaining grants will be awarded on a prorated basis, so additional recipients will be selected from commissaries that have more qualified applicants.

The deadline to apply for this year’s program is February 24, 2020, so please share this blog post to let the military children in your family know to submit their online application soon!
