Freedom's Choice Water - Splash Into Savings

Freedom’s Choice™ makes a splash at Naval Station Norfolk!

Members of the military community who attended the July 22 commissioning ceremony for the USS Gerald R. Ford at Naval Station Norfolk had the opportunity to enjoy Freedom’s Choice™ water!

Our industry partner, SpartanNash, donated 32,000 bottles of this Commissary-branded product to help everyone there beat the summer heat, as temperatures rose above 90°F!

The donation was a natural fit for the company, which has its corporate headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI, where President Ford grew up, and its MDV military division headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

“We approached DeCA about our desire to donate Freedom’s Choice water for the Norfolk commissioning, and they were very excited and supportive of our donation.

Having had the honor of attending, I can say firsthand the crew, family members and guests greatly appreciated the cold water on this monumental day.”

-Kathy Mahoney, President, SpartanNash MDV & Chief Legal Officer, SpartanNash

U.S.S. Ford - Freedom's Choice

We recently partnered with SpartanNash to release Freedom’s Choice® water products at stateside commissaries and a growing number of Commissary-branded products worldwide.

As a military benefit, the Defense Commissary Agency is here to support the military community, so we were proud to be part of this event!

“It was an honor to play a small role in something so historic – the commissioning of an American supercarrier – by offering guests and those we serve in the military some welcome relief from the heat with our own brand of water.”

-Chris Burns, Executive Director for Business Transformation, Defense Commissary Agency

While we were there, we also got to talk to some of our customers, who found the water refreshing and told us how much they enjoy their commissary benefit!

  • “I think it’s great the commissary is doing this. The commissary is great in general because it’s cheap.” -Navy Ensign Karyn Lee
  • “It tastes good, and if it’s cheaper than the other brands, I’ll most likely be buying Freedom’s Choice.” -Lt. j.g. Sean Carrigan
  • I think it’s great! I love the commissary. I do all my shopping there. -Kaitlin Mikatarian

And now, we’d love to hear from you! Have you tried any products from our new Commissary brands yet? If so, what did you think?
